What We Do

The Kids Who Care program conducts two projects each school year:

1. An environmental project competition

2. An environmental field day.

1. Project Competition

Over the years, project submissions and student and teacher representation have steadily increased. In 2009/2010, there were 5068 students, 227 teachers, and 90 different projects.  This was an increase in the number of teachers and students over the previous year!  In additon $6650 in grants and class awards were given to project winners. Because project packets are sent to teachers  at the start of the school year, students have the opportunity to learn about the environment throughout the year.

2.  Backyard NatureScope

Annual Environmental Field Day

The Berkeley County Kids Who Care Board of Directors hosts an annual environmental field day, Backyard NatureScope, at the Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner, SC.

The field day provides an opportunity for all the students who participate in the annual project competition to learn from environmental specialists and community businesses what can be done to protect and enhance our environment.  In 2009/2010, over 5000 children participated and were able to attend Backyard NatureScope.
