Every year KWC sponsors a project competition with the support of the Berkeley County School District. The projects are age-appropriate, hands-on environmental lessons designed to help the students develop a sense of responsibility and become an influence in their homes and eventually the community.
The project packets are sent to teachers at the start of the school year so students have the opportunity to learn about the environment throughout the year. The projects are judged by members of the community and grants are given to the teachers of the winning projects to purchase classroom supplies for their environmental teachings.
Over the years, KWC has had over 75,000 children participate in the project competition and awarded over $95,000 in grants.
Every student that participates in the project competition is invited to NatureScope, an environmental field day that is hosted at Santee Canal Park in Mocks Corner.
